Alice again! (2011-06-18)

The most boring day on this trip! We made a small fire for a quick breakfast and left the campground quite early, to reach Alice Springs as soon as possible. 5 hours later we stopped at the same supermarket we have been to a few days ago, got food for the next 4 days and looked for toilets – without any success! Around 5 o’clock we arrived at the campground for the night, we found …

The Olgas (2011-06-17)

6.30am! Sunrise at 7.29 and around half an hour drive made it necessary to get up earlier than usual. We started without the guys, as they were still in bed. At the lookout we met the same people we’ve already seen yesterday. And it was even less exciting than the sunset. A bit disappointed we drove back to the camp to get pancakes for breakfast. After everything was packed and another shower we drove to …

Uluru (2011-06-16)

After our usual morning routine (fire, breakfast, clean-up) we left to finally see Uluru. We stopped at the Resort, to get a camping side. The first paid camp side on our trip yet, meaning we get proper showers, as many as we want, a proper kitchen set up and Pubs to spend the evening. We also heard, that the climb on the rock is opened, so everyone was looking forward even more. After the 25$ …

Kings Canyon (2011-06-15)

After a quiet, but, as usual cold night, we drove the last kilometres to Kings Canyon. Of course we did the long walk, to see the whole canyon. It started with the hardest part, rough stone-stairs up to the first level, but we had a quite nice view afterwards. We kept going and after a couple of climbs, we stood at the edge and saw the actual canyon. It was an amazing view on the …

Alice Springs (2011-06-13)

We struggled a bit in the morning to light the fire and when Fabien and I got it finally burning, we discovered, that there were at least three mice in our car and we had to take everything out to check our food. We ended up throwing some stuff out, but luckily not too much. After this rather annoying activity, we fried pancakes on the fire and started our day. With a short stop at …

MacDonnell Ranges (2011-06-14)

There was again ice everywhere when we woke up. Like the last days the tent and the cars where covered in a thin layer of ice – and we sleep just in a sleeping bag! After we already cut half of a dead tree yesterday to get our fire going, I cut the other half this morning, which also had the advantage of physically work, which kept me warm. While I tried to get the …

Thank You

I’m in Sydney right now and finished more than 7 weeks working and living on a cattle and sheep station! Although my blog is not really up to date at the moment, I want to thank Jan and Rob right now again, rather than in a couple of weeks! I think neither me nor Jan and Rob had an idea, what to expect from each other, when I arrived on Eastersunday, but for me it …

The Breakaways (2011-06-12)

We started the day with another campfire. It was so cold, that we had to burn the leftover wood from last night. After everyone was sorted, we went to the fuelstation to have a shower. We had to pay 3.50$, but it was definitely worth it. It took some time for the 6 of us to shower in only 2 cabins, but finally everyone felt warm and clean again. With a short visit to the …

Coober Pedy (2011-06-11)

It’s unbelievable how cold it is in the desert! I slept in the car again and hat to use some insulation mat between me and the door, to keep me warm enough. We headed to Coober Pedy after breakfast. On our way we found a “small” lake, where we stopped for lunch. We already planned to stop here and have a swim yesterday It sounded like a good idea, considering that none of us had …

Lake Eyrie (2011-06-10)

The night wasn’t too bad. My new sleeping bag kept me warm and the seats were alright to sleep in. Shortly after we woke up, we saw two new faces, Dave and Andrew (UK and Canada) who were picked up by the French guys (Saif and Michael) last night. They stayed up til 4 in the morning drinking Goon and looked accordingly. Anyway, they seem quite alright. After a pretty basic breakfast, we headed of, …
